My Hero

by Janel Sasso

To most people a hero is someone that fly’s around with a smile on their face and saves people. A hero to me is someone that impacts peoples lives and is always there. My Uncle Dennis is a perfect example of a hero. He was the strongest person I know. He was dedicated to everything he did. Also, he was one of the most caring people ever. My Uncle Dennis inspired everyone.

When my Uncle Dennis was diagnosed with cancer it crushed everyone. He battled Sarcoma for over two years. He had three daughters who he left on October 22, of 2007. He went through a lot of chemotherapy treatments. He always had a smile on his face though. He never gave up. He taught me that. No matter what never give up. He went to work everyday. He didn’t care how sick he was. He always gave his girls a lap to jump into. That to me makes me thankful that I had him in my life. He was always a trooper no matter what happened.

Dennis Rich was dedicated to everything he did. From when he was a student to when he started his own business. He always was smart and creative. He had high grades and was noticed for that. He started his own business with his brother not too long ago. It was a construction company. He employed most of his family in this company. The love between the crew was amazing. When he passed it seemed as if he was still there. He was also dedicated to his family. He always wanted to be with his girls and his wife. He made everyone smile all the time.

On top of everything else that he was, my Uncle Dennis also was one of the most caring people I will ever know. He always knew just how to make people happy. He had an amazing sense of humor that was loved by everyone. He would almost do anything to make someone smile or just to laugh. That’s what I loved about my Uncle Dennis, he always was the jokester of my family. There was never a dull moment when he was around. That’s what I miss most about him. The way he made me laugh. Another thing that made him so caring was how he always put others before himself. He had a strong love for his family and always enjoyed being around them. We all enjoyed his company. He definitely was a pleasure to be around. His presence made everything seem so cheerful and happy.

My Uncle Dennis was an amazing person in many ways. He was the strongest person I will ever know, and he inspired me. He was dedicated to his family and to his job. He also cared about everything and everyone. On October 22, I lost one great uncle that can never be replaced.

Forever

by Cassidy Rich

The mist danced around the flowers,

bright and sprightly,

contrasting the cries

of suffering and pain.

The morning sun shined,

casting rays down

striping the tear-stricken faces

like a child,

innocent and ignorant,

playing taunting games.

Every buzzing bee,

shunned.

Every happy sound,

ignored.

Nature could do nothing

to mend the broken hearts

as the casket entered the earth

and you were gone

forever.
