I think Dennis was the only guy I know that would eat a pickle from the candy store a few houses down from where you were. Despite the owner (I think it was Sonia) having those long, creepy fingernails. And she had the uncanny ability to grab a pickle on the first try at the bottom of the jar, which was utterly and completely disturbing even today. What was more disturbing was that Dennis was willing to eat that pickle for some Funyuns and penny candy. He was a legend-- and thank god today for Board of Health regulations!

Sonias, who could ever forget Sonia with her dirty nails and yellowish white hair. I am not sure why any of us ate her candy after she counted them with that one dirty nail across the dirty counter.
As for the pickles, only Dennis would be so fearless as to try them!
What flashbacks!
Our childhood was awesome!
we need a picture of the church yard were we played football for hour's,miss riding in the big white tank DENNIS couldn't see over the hood that's why we crashed into to poles and snowbanks all the time (sorry Mr.Rich)sitting in the front seat always hurt my knee's because the front seat was one big seat and DENNIS sat so close.Great memories !
Those nails were nasty, remember she use to add up numbers on the back of ripped cigarett cartons. You know she had a gun behind that counter. But we all ate the red fishes didn't we. Gina
WAIT A MINUTE!!!!! I ate those pickles too. Nothing was better than going to sonia's and getting penny candy. Life was just so simple and we weren't so afraid of dirty hands fishing for our pickles. That didn't sound to good but still is very true!
YUMMMMMM dirty pickles. Gina
hey i didn'y know ricky schroder grew up in beachmont the kid with blonde hair, ya jimmy got it before you did ! a brown bag of penny candy a package of cupcakes or twinkies and a bottle of coke on a saturday afternoon doesn't get better than that!!and 1 more thing egging the pink house next to the church yard on halloween because he wouldn't give us our balls back that went over to his yard..
Was his name Embry? I ate the pickles on occasion too! I forgot about her totalling things on cigarette cartons! What a flashback! Remember her son's car chained in front of the store?
yes, the guy in the pink house was Embry, we torchered him, but he stole our balls how dare he. All those Sonia memories were fun to talk about. isn't it funny that we all have the same exact memories. That car chained out front was creepy, her son reminded me of the guy in Pyscho. 20 years of separation will never take these memories away from us. Luv Gina C
Hey Dennis used to take my kids there when they were little too! Jimmy used to charge them candy when he helped them cross the street to go to Sonias. LOL Thanks for the memories. Auntie Paula
