Sent to Heaven

Daddy was remembered in a special way today for Alana, Elise and Mia. They each wrote special birthday notes and we put them into blue balloons. Jodi and I along with Matt and Kristina took them to the cemetery this afternoon.
When we arrived Auntie Jeannie was there along with Uncle Freddy. They were amazed to see all the special tokens that were left there from so many people in his family. Flowers, Irish flags, a balloon and a big happy birthday poster! They could tell that Daddy was in a lot of people's thoughts today. The weather was incredibly warm for a mid-November day.
The girls looked up into the sky and with smiles yelled "Happy Birthday Daddy! We Love You!" They let their balloons go and they instantly flew up into heaven. A sudden gust of wind scooped up the balloons allowing them to fly together in the same direction. It was so quick-- almost as if Dennis was waiting through the clouds with his hands wide open ready to capture those special notes from his precious girls. We stood there and watched the balloons disappear into the clouds. As we drove home Alana and Elise asked many questions. They were really concerned about how he was going to be able to pop the balloons and get the notes they wrote him. I really should have done my homework because that one caught me off-guard!
Later on we sang happy birthday and blew out 1 candle on the cake. Elise said, "My Dad was 39, we should have 39 candles."
Alana thought there should be 40 (1 for good luck). I told them we only had 1 candle because he was their #1 Daddy.
They liked that one. I was really starting to get into a rhythm with my answers!! We ate lots of chocolate cake and coffee ice cream and told stories about Dennis. Alana asked Jodi several times, "What was Dad's favorite letter?"
Jodi said it must have been "D" for Dennis and Daddy. Alana shook her head no and said, "I think it was 'G' for girls, daddy loves us girls." I think Alana is right. Dennis loved Jodi and the girls so much, and I am sure he is clutching those notes right now blowing them kisses. There are a two things I know for sure: #1 is that they went to bed dreaming happy thoughts of their Daddy tonight and #2, I need to run at least 5 miles tomorrow to work off all the cake and ice cream.

That's exactly the way Daddy would have wanted you to spend his birthday. Jane, you are such a great aunt, sister and friend. Jodi, you are the strongest, most wonderful mother. Dennis must be so proud, he picked a good one! His girls will be okay and that's what mattered most to him.
I love you!
